What is Serra Club?

In 1935, Serra was formed in the United States when a group of Catholic lay persons decided to organize for the distinct purpose of promoting and fostering vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life.

Father Junipero Serra y Ferrer, O.F.M. a Franciscan priest (who was beautified by Pope John Paul II on September 25, 1988 and Canonized by Pope Francis on September 23, 2015) whose ministry in the 1700’s included portions of California and Mexico, was chosen as the club’s patron and the organization was named after him.

Serrans can be found serving Christ all over the world. They are Catholics that come from a wide array of professional and job-related backgrounds, ethnic roots, and generational age groups.  Serrans are united by their passion for faithfully serving our Lord through their ministry of fostering vocations to religious life and priesthood.

Meetings are preceded by 5:00 PM Adoration
for Vocations and Holy Mass at 6:00 PM.

“I am deeply grateful to God for my vocation to the priesthood.  Nothing means more to me or gives me greater joy than to celebrate Mass each day and to serve God’s people in the Church.  That has been true ever since the day of my ordination as a priest.” — Pope John Paul II

Serra’s Mission

Serra Club’s objectives are:

  • To promote, encourage and foster vocations to the Catholic priesthood and to support our priests in their ministries.

  • To promote, encourage and foster vocations to sacred religious life in men and women who are called to serve the Lord in a religious order.

  • To promote, encourage and foster its members to serve our Lord by actively participating in Serra Club’s ministry by providing a place where they can express their love for our Lord by assisting those men and women who themselves are called to serve God through a holy vocation.

The Importance of Vocations

In a modern world that grows increasingly secular in nature, it is now more important than ever to foster and promote religious vocations in the Church. Persons with a deep level of faith who wish to serve our Lord by committing themselves to religious life and accepting Holy Orders, serve God and their community in a very unique and most loving way. Serrans believe that vocations to serve God are special and every effort should be made to assist these persons by providing them with access to spiritual and other resources as necessary to support them during Formation.
